Well, ladies, I don't know why my blog looks wierd?? I don't know if I messed up the the html or what - who knows . . . but I am so tired and sore tonight. I know, stop talking about the ice skating Karen, but tonight it is a sad story. It was all going well today, got my old blades back, did my jumps, and my edge work, could spin again and then I started working on spirals. You know when the skaters skate on one foot and either put their free leg up in the air?? Well, I can do the ones when I put my leg out behind me in little bit greater than a 90 degree angle. Forwards, Backwards - all good. Then I see this teenager doing a heel-stretch one - skating on one foot and holding their ankle and technically putting up by her ear. Okay, I can do that standing on the ground, and I thought, what the heck . . . wow, I did it! Not totally straight but decent for a first try. And then I felt confident, pulled the leg up and oh, embarrasing, my blade slipped out from under me and I landed in a very, very loud crash, right on my BUM!! OUCH - it smarted like, um, I really can't describe it. But now I wish I had a pillow to sit on, I think I might go and get one.

And tomorrow I have to go and wait at the airport and then sit in a airplane seat for 2 hours, my bum is aching just thinking about it!! It is my Dad's 60th birthday and his girlfriend is throwing him a surprise birthday party. On a boat, at night . . . so no kids are coming, dh is having a dad and me weekend, and I will be scared the whole time because I am terrified of dark water. Don't know why, just hate it. So say a little prayer for me and my sanity (heck, include my bum if you feel like it.) So I hope he doesn't read this blog, I doubt it, but if he does, SURPRISE!! Have a great weekend!! I will be back Monday . . . but maybe Kel will hijack this blog with something!!

Boy, after I reread this I realize I sound like a whiner - sorry - just one of those days!!

Perfection . . .

Kelli just wrote this beautiful post about God, perfection and his love. And I just finished, perfectly writing 'Happy 60th Birthday Grandpa' on a special plate for my dad. It looked great, and then I told the girls what I wanted them to do - draw hearts and sqiggles in the middle of the plate only. . . I gave them the permanent markers . . . and now it looks as if there is a permanent glop of messy noodles . . . all over the plate.

Thanks Kelli, and the girls thank you too, although they don't know it. After we got permanent marker on their cute princess capris pants and everywhere on the plate that I didn't want it, a very wound-up Mommy took them up to take a bath. I poured the water, got them in the tub, then I sat down in the hallway outside the bathroom (I can see them - don't worry) and turned on my laptop and read your blog. And I felt a little silly and shallowish, for worrying about the 'perfect' plate and much calmer because I had a whole new perspective on the situation. My perfect plate - maybe not what I had envisioned, but I know it will bring my dad a smile and a little bit of happiness each time he uses it. And the girls did what they wanted to do and I will have to praise them later when we show the plate to dh tonight about their art skills. So thank you, now I am a much calmer mommy, with a better attitude and the rest of the evening will go much smoother . . . now, what am I going to make for dinner?

just another night surfing . . .

Well, no big thoughts tonight. I skated today . . . loved it! I did an easy combination jump of a waltz jump into a toe loop - really cool. But then she started to show me step sequences called Moves in the Field and they were really annoying!! AAGH, I remember hating compulsory stuff like this when I was a kid. Now instead of doing it a 5:00 am before school, I am doing them in my fun/free time . . . yikes, if only I could just jump and skate without footwork! But, honestly - improving edges and footwork will make my jumps and spins look better! (In theory!)

Anyway, as I was surfing I found these links for tonight.

These might be interesting things to have around the house . . .

And these people have waaaayyyyy too much time on their hands!!

Really, I have alot of pencils already . . . think I could sell some of them??

And then I visited Yahoo . . .

Okay, TOMKAT?? Beyond wierd . . .

I think this would be an amazing thing to see someday . . .;_ylt=AukdnKxg6C451i_PUCVF3_cPLBIF;_ylu=X3oDMTA5aHJvMDdwBHNlYwN5bmNhdA--

Have a wonderful night!! I am done with the 'net!

thoughts, from my head

What makes you happy? What do you do - that when you are done - you say, wow, that made me smile! Or what happened to the time?? Or I can’t wait to do that again, when can I come back?? Can’t this moment last forever? Or how can I do this everyday?? Don’t you love it when you do something that feels so right, you glow? When was the last time that happened for you?? Hopefully you know. And if you don’t – FIND IT!

What I love about the world is that my idea of happy and your idea of happy are most likely completely different. What makes me happy and you happy are also most likely completely different. I love that. I love that we can all have different experiences and different lives. And that we can all look at each other and say, wow, I am glad that they found that. And I believe that our happiness comes from using the gifts and talents that God gave us. When we use what God gives us, it fits, it feels right – and it makes us happy.

And then it all goes back to my favorite idea of the world, that when we look around at the world it looks like the underneath of a tapestry. What does the underneath of a tapestry look like? It looks like a mess – with strings going everywhere. The strings stop and start suddenly. The colors have no pattern. And this is what the world looks like to us. But to God, who built the tapestry and looks at the other side, it is a beautiful picture. A picture created by our talents and gifts. We are all a part of that tapestry. Thank goodness that we are different – what a boring tapestry it would be if we were all the same.

What in the heck I am I talking about? I don’t know. I just thought I might share a few of my ideas about life. And I do know what makes me happy. Taking care of myself, spending time with my family and friends, playing sports, and my new - found recreation, ice skating. Go figure, my new happiness was found on a lark, with friends, being silly. So, tell me what makes you happy! Or try one new thing – you never know what you might just find!!

two fun links for today

OOH, they finally have a new album coming out! And I really like the new song . . .

And, how about it, anybody want to try out??

Okay, I am off the computer for today now, I promise . . . kinda.

Legwarmers are cool!

I am not offended about the legwarmers! I bought them for, guess, Ice Skating!! I just think they would be so cool looking, or heck, I will just wear them around the house when I watch VH1 - 80's music!! If I decide to do ice skating tests and competition, I should wear a skirt - and I think my legs would get cold!! I know I could wear pants but I am one of those traditionalists - or I will be until I try on a skating outfit with sequins and ruffles! (Hehe, I will not post pictures of that! Sorry, to many blackmail possiblities!) But many of the adults at the rink wear little practice shirts and t-shirts. They look really cute, but I only own tennis skirts, and I think those just might not fit in at the ice rink!

We are having a lazy day at home today. I really don't want to go anywhere or do anything. And I am almost out of money for the month, so it is time to stay home and enjoy the 'stuff' and the 'things' that we already have! Sorry Target shareholders, the girls are staying home today!

Well, it is a cold, overcast day here in the ATL. So much for the awesome week we had last week when I started working on my tan - really, I have lines from my tennis tanktop already!!

But today, I was inside all morning at the rink , and BOY, did I have fun. I had a lesson, and since I am having some trouble with my new blades - we didn't do any spinning. But we did do JUMPS!! WOOHOO!! I did singles of Salchows and Toe Loops!! Yeah, it was so much fun!! My coach showed me what to do, I was cautious at first, and then I just threw them!! I love jumping, it was amazing. I really think that ice skating is the closest you can come to flying!! I am having such a high!! I was really tired when I was done today, but I just want to get back out on the ice, who can babysit for me tomorrow??

My new blades are not quite as rounded as my old blades - and I cannot center myself in a spin at all. It is really frustrating. Because I worked so hard on them for the last few weeks, I got my new skates - and no good spins. So my coach suggested that I take my old blades off my old boots and put them on my new ones. So I will have to run to the proshop before I tutor tonight. They have the worst hours there, 4pm-9pm m-f. I mean, who really shops during dinner time?? But the girls love to watch the skaters - so it is always fun for them to come with me.

Now, for my shallow discussion for the day, I have to figure out how to pay for skating once the school year is over. Right now, I just use my tutoring money for ice time, lessons and the girls are at school. So now, I need to find a way to make money in the summer to cover skating and babysitting. I know of all the things in the world that are going on, here I am worried about this. But I am seriously addicted to this skating rush - so, if you have any ideas, please share them with me. Maybe I could get a job on the weekends?? Hum, think Food Lion is hiring again??

Hope you are all doing well!! Smile, its almost the weekend!!

Last words for the night!!

Skettie - I tried to post this on your blog, but it kept telling me I wasn't typing in the correct 'word verification' thing . . . Did you catch Lost?? It wasn't the worst episode - but it sure looks like next week will be A WINNER!! I hope that you are feeling better - we all love you you know!! LYLAS! (That's a blast from the past!)

Kelli - hope your house is a barf-free zone, finally!!

And why am I the only NERD?? Okay, so I did wear my new skates during Lost, but I am still molding them to my feet . . .

AND congrats to the VA Tech women on making it so far in the NCAA basketball . . . it was a tough loss last night - but AWESOME!!

Aah, yet another test . . .

65 % Nerd, 47% Geek, 26% Dork

For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd, earning you the title of: Pure Nerd.

The times, they are a-changing. It used to be that being exceptionally smart led to being unpopular, which would ultimately lead to picking up all of the traits and tendences associated with the "dork." No-longer. Being smart isn't as socially crippling as it once was, and even more so as you get older: eventually being a Pure Nerd will likely be replaced with the following label: Purely Successful.

You only have to read this if you are really bored and have nothing better to do.

Because since I might become President of the club soon, I have to start thinking about things to write in the newsletter. I have to write the intro article every month – and even though I can blog, and talk, I hate writing stuff that I have to write. But after the negative experience at the twin sale I want to write about how an attitude, a positive or a negative one can change your life. I personally can be either a glass half empty or a glass half-full person depending on the day. I can stay in my pajamas for 24 hours on the couch or I can spring into action at 6:00 AM and be on the move until dinner. Sometimes I have to work really hard to get off the couch and sometimes I have to work at sitting still. And although I do find sitting on the couch easier, there is a little voice in my head that will keep nagging at me until I do what I have to do. Lately, that nagging voice has been stronger than couch voice but they do tend to balance each other out in the end.

Now, okay, I don’t hear voices, but I do have a voice and it is not always a consistent voice. And this is normal. Some days it is a positive voice and on others it is not. Sometimes things happen to us in life that can bog us down, but my belief is, that although we might have had bad things happen to us, they didn’t happen so that we stay on the couch all day. What is it that we are supposed to do with bad things? I can work and talk with bereaved parents, parents of preemies, and multiples. I can work with adult children dealing with divorce, aging parents, angry parents and siblings that need to get a life. And the list could go on and on, but I know it is what we do with these experiences that forms us as a person. So the question you have to ask, is who am I and what am I supposed to be? What do I want to show the world about what I have learned in my short years here on earth? What am I going to continue to show them, as I get older – if I live to 100, I have just started on the second quarter? Yikes!

You can’t live a healthy life on the couch. So you have to deal with the feelings that get you on the couch in the first place. And letting yourself acknowledge the fact that you do have these feelings can be hard and it can feel like a big black hole. The hole that has been dug for you – has also been dug for you to get out of. And sometimes, as you climb out of the hole, you realize that you dug the hole yourself – and then you feel pretty dumb. And sometimes you can’t dig yourself out by yourself. You need help and support from friends and those that can see the hole and the stairs out of it from a different point of view.
So why am I rambling? Because I have dealt with too many people this week that don’t know themselves and those that are willing to stay angry with the world rather than question it and fix it. And I can write here better than on the newsletter software when its blank pages stare back at me. So you have all been treated to a short visit with Karen’s head – and it rambles all the time. And I doubt that I can use any of this for the newsletter!? But there are several other topics of interest for me, but after this cathartic writing experience I am done for today!!

Smile, your head might just be more normal than mine!!

Fun Links

Here are a couple links for you . . .

Want to know where your tax money is going??

Want some fun in the morning??

Ever wonder who is going to take care of you when you are older??

GROSS, but you never know when you might need to know what to do . . .

Finally Friday

I am really looking forward to this weekend!! I don't know why this week has gone by so slowly . . . ever since Tuesday I have been convinced it was Friday. But it is here now and YEAH!

I had my first tennis match of the season yesterday, and the drive there took longer than the match. One of the women we played had never played b4 and so we won quickly and tried not to be too excited. It really isn't fun to beat someone that has never played. I prefer good matches that make me run and get a workout, but I don't mind having the 6-0, 6-0 score next to my name.

We put 'big girl' swings on the swingset this week. I can't believe the girls can get onto the swing and use it all by themselves. But there favorite thing to do is get on the swing on their belly, turn in circles twisting up the chains as much as they can and then swinging around in crazy - fast circles. They have a ball. Then last weekend I raked paths in the woods out back and the girls think they are 'hiking' in the woods. It is really funny b/c they pretend to get lost and then give each other directions. And then we also hear the familiar "Go THAT WAY" "Stop Following me, mommy, make her stop, I want to play by myself."

And the drama with the twins club continues this week! We had an online board meeting and the president resigned, but she keeps doing stuff. So now we have to have a face-to-face board meeting here, at my house on Monday. Guess I won't wear my hoop earrings or the high heels!! HEHE But I hate confrontation - I'll have to print out Skettie's picture of the hedgehog and put it on the wall!!

On Saturday the girls are going to a birthday party - the firetruck is coming! Did you know that the firemen will come to a birthday party for free b/c it is considered community service?? So, if you need a birthday party idea (or a bachlorette party hehe) call the firestation! They are also having an inflatable jumper shaped like a firetruck - can we talk about how long they will nap on Saturday afternoon?? WOOHOO!

And Sunday, I am looking forward to a rainy, family day inside. Maybe I will introduce the girls to the Goonies?? But it might be a little early since they still get scared watching the Lion King and they have seen it over 100 times (or it feels like it anyway!)

Okay, I hope that you all have a good weekend - do something fun - smile - Spring is here!! K out

Wednesday, March 15, 2006

Hey Kel, I did do pretty well, I just wish I knew the ones that I did get wrong!! But I know I didn't miss the Goonies question - they were just too easy!!

Nothing too interesting going on here this week, too much tennis not enough ice - time. I did skate on Tuesday. I did several waltz jumps, and I have those down. Forward scratch spin - good and getting really fast. But my back spin was pitiful. (Spin on the foot you are not comfortable with and on the outside edge!) But my new skates were great!! The blades were so sharp - I had to actually drag my feet around the ice to dull them down a little. I lasted about 25 minutes in the news boots!! But I took them off when the burn of tired feet became too much. Then I finished the practice in the old boots!

I think I may have convinced dh to go ice skating with me on Friday night - I think we will fit right in with all the teenagers - ya' think?? I still am not sure if we will go or not - but I will take any opportunity to get on the ice that I can!! :) Love ya all!

The sale

Hi Everyone!! Well, the sale went very smoothly. It was long and tiring - and I almost got into a fight - but overall, it was good.

So I bet, you want to know about the fight!! A little backstory first - on Friday night, the sellers get to shop but they have to get into line according to the time that they arrive at the sale. However, there are certain jobs at the sale that get to go first, like the coordinators and cashiers and this usually upsets the slackers b/c they have to wait. So one of the ladies that arrived on Friday was complaining and moaning that she had to wait in line. But she had arrived later than others - hence the wait. And she let Natalie have it - but Natalie is not easily shaken and told her - you don't have to sell and be a part of this if you don't want to - which shut the lady up. Okay, fast forward to Saturday, sellers meeting after the sale - and we are just wrapping up. Natalie and I are on the stage at the school going over the last few things, and Natalie mentions to remember when you get your check that if you were late arriving to the sale then you will receive a penalty deduction from your check. Well, guess who was 20 minutes late that morning?? THE LINE LADY Here is the dialogue for you! This takes place in front of 1o0 people - Natalie and I are on stage, and the group is sitting in chairs.

"Well, how much will we be penalized?" Lady
"I can't remember right now - any other questions?" N
"Well, you are sale coordinator - you should know!" Lady
"I have 3 kids, a life and I have been working here all day, sorry" N
"This is ridiculous, I feel like we are being treated like 12 year olds." Lady
"Sorry" N
"NO, this is so stupid." Lady
"Look, this is a volunteer position, and you can volunteer to do this if you like. In July there will be an election and you can vote for whomever you want to be the sales coordinator." N
"Can we vote for who we don't want to be sales coordinator?" She smirked.
THE GROUP started getting really agitated at her and telling her to stop. Did she? NO

"This whole sale has been horrible, blah, blah, blah . . . " Lady

"I would love to talk to you about this in private." Me

"Why, can't you talk about this in front of everyone?" Lady

"I am not sure that everyone else wants to hear this right now." Me and the whole group echoing my sentiments. AND she kept going, but I tuned her out - Natalie started talking, but I don't remember what she said. They stopped. And I said,
"Who here think Friday set up went well?" The group cheers. "And who here thinks the sale went smoothly?" The group cheers again. "

DID the lady stop? NO! Luckily the group told her to shup up and she stopped finally. We ended the meeting and the lady charges right up to the stage. Still going on and on about how she is being treated like a child. (And in hindsight, I should have told her she was acting like one, but I always think of the comebacks later!) She says, where does it say that I was late? I showed her where she signed and the time that she wrote, 7:40, in her own handwriting.
"This is crazy, my kids were up, that's why I was late. Can't you be flexible here?"
"We all have kids, and we all made arrangements to be here early this morning." Me
"Crazy, I have three kids." Lady
"Look, there are 94 names in front of you, all of them with 2 kids or more and they were here on time."Me
And did she shut up? No, because one her toys had been pulled by me, b/c it was broken and dirty. So, she started going at me b/c of that. But she admitted on the sale tag that it was broken, so again, by her own admission she was in the wrong. Finally, the group of women started coming up on stage and getting in between us, trying to pull us away. They were all talking about how wonderfully the sale went, how much they were impressed with how we had stayed on schedule and stuff like that. It was crazy and dh says I could get into trouble if I really told you all the words that I would have like to have used with her. It was horrible. I hate that kind of thing. I understand that women can be mean and cruel. But when I encounter the rudest of the rude, I HATE it. I keep replaying it in my head over and over. I say better things and have better comebacks, and I hope it stops soon.

But overall, there were no problems. It was amazingly smooth but I am tired. I slept for three hours on Friday night and stood from 3pm -1am on Friday and from 7AM - 5Pm. I did sleep really well last night. but now, it is 9:30 and I am typing through Desperate Housewives. And I AM GOING TO MAKE it until Gray's Anatomy. I hope that you all have a good night!

OHHHH - and my skates came on THURSDAY!! I HAD MY FIRST LESSON AND I DID MY FIRST JUMP IN YEARS!! But I will write more about that tomorrow!!

The block has cleared!

Hello Readers!! Well, nothing has really been too exciting around here so far this week!! I am going skating tomorrow and I do have a lesson!! Woohoo!! What should I try and do, oh, yeah, not fall on my knees again, right!! The bruise is slowly going away, we sure take longer to heal now, then we did when we were little kids!! A and B have both had several bruises come and go in the time that my knee has gone through the stages of bruise colors!

And on Friday I have the setup for our Twins Club Consignment Sale and then on Saturday the sale itself!! Gotta love being VP for the club, becuase I really just have to stand at the door and greet buyers! Tough job, but someone has to do it!! I am also supposed to be part of the loss prevention team, I am intimidating, I know, so I think I will be really good at it!! Usually, we go to the Spa before the sale, but I have spent all my fun money on skating, so I will be going to "Ye Old Nail Shoppe" for a manicure, just kidding about the name, more like "Quick Nail 3."

Let's see, nothing else this week. Oh, Tennis starts again. But I just don't have the drive or interest in tennis that I had before skating. But my mom said that tennis would at least get me outside - instead of staying in at the rink. And I suppose I should socialize with all my friends instead of being a 'singles' skater at the rink. But skating is just so much better than tennis . . . but I do have lots of cute tennis outfits to wear!!

Okay, links for tonight . . .

Don't forget . . .

And look around this store there are a few fun things . . .

Think they make these for the Jetta?

And this is an interesting spot, I guess when you get bored blogging words - you can blog pictures?? You need fast internet access for this page!
